i should go clubbing more often, then i mightn't overdo it quite so much when i do get to.

The night started on an interesting note when i gave the taxi driver directions there and he said "say, that's not the old Anglers' Club is it?".  There's a name i haven't heard in years.  Turns out he used to play in bands there in the late '80s, about when i would have first gone there (though i didn't see his band).  Apparently it had been going for something like 15 years even before that.  We chatted about clubs and bands and things like the idiocy of drug sniffer dogs.  It was rare that i get somewhere thinking the taxi ride was too short.

Angel Theory were good.  The vocals in the first couple of tracks seemed to need a bit of echo/reverb/whatever, but then they tweaked exactly that and the rest of the set sounded just right.  i realised a couple of reasons i like EBM played live but not at a disco - for one thing the songs tend to be broken up, not beat mixed and blended, and varied in style and pace instead of chosen for sameness.  Also, the vocals seem to be mixed more to the fore, which is the bit i like, and i can just stand and watch so it doesn't matter that i can't dance to it.

Then it was upstairs, where i spent a couple of hours chatting to new and old friends, bitched at Cahl for playing too much industrial (sorry dude, but i really do hate that stuff), then spent the last couple of hours dancing my arse off to goth and '80s and annoying the poor DJs with requests for stuff they didn't have.  (Though they did have the Deep Eynde, which i thought was my least likely longshot, and i probably would have gotten around to requesting Devo's 'Mongoloid' if they hadn't beaten me to it).

Oh, and i scored a Devilish Presley cd for being the quickest drunken loudmouth, so how cool is that?

Dragged myself away reluctantly about 5.30, probably would have danced for another hour if i'd had the foresight not to wear a watch.

Now i just have to stay awake enough for Sforzando tonight.

PS. Apologies to anyone that i owe one to but don't remember why. (i'm sure there's someone)

Welcome to my life! I do that pretty much every week. I'm glad you had such a good time though.

Bummer.

It might be worth a mention though that the Croque Monsieur gig is free, and finishes by 11 with plenty of time for public transport, so it's only drinks that would cost you anything (unless you found someone financial to buy you some).

We did Sforzando last night (i'd forgotten just how good the were) but will be piking tonight (still two more Croque night left this month).
