A journey of many miles begins with just a single step.
Sun and rain depart the sky, to bring life to the earth below.
Baby steps, although uncertain, signify heaven itself.
Placid lake, calm and serene. A mirror to reflect the soul.
Stay awhile, enjoy the scene, though your gaze skims just the surface.
Far beneath, in the hidden depths, lie treasures undiscovered.
Tongues flicker within the hearth, a wild energy tamed and contained.
Tend it well, this living flame, to keep us warm against the night.
Stir it too within my own heart. Help me kindle the fire inside.
Around us, the storm rages. Thunder rattles the doors and windows.
Small children and animals all are frightened - grown adults too.
Greet your fear, as if an old friend. How else do we know courage?
A light breeze plays with the leaves, turning circles in the courtyard.
Branches sway, as if caressed by the soft touch of a lover.
Take care, though. When roused to anger, her rage can be unstoppable.
The river winds in its course, through dale and cleft and under ground.
In storm drains, open gutters, water passes ever onward.
Block its path, it will still get to where it's going in the end.
The mountains, cool and distant, rise silently against the sky.
Unchanging, they have been here while countless lives have come and gone.
If only i can stand as firm, when the time comes to hold my ground.
Rain and sun from the heavens arrive at last to meet the earth.
Reaching our destination, we brush the dust from our shoe soles.
Underfoot, green shoots push upward - a new journey has begun.
Might need some more work, but not bad for a place to start.
