I noticed a headline of this article the newspaper in the tea room this morning:

We don't want to work with these thugs

I flicked through to read it, maybe wishfully wondering if there might be something involving other muslims rejecting the actions of these hotheads (which would be a very useful development right about now).  There wasn't anything along those lines, not sure why i thought there might be, but instead what did jump out at me was the quote: "We don't want them here," he said. "Not all Muslims are terrorists, we know that. But beating up television crews . . . that's just un-Australian."

*bangs head on desk*

*mutters*

*bangs head on desk a few more times*

Okay, now i'm quite sympathetic to the idea of spontaneous grass-roots social sanctions and cold shoulders against people who behave in unacceptably violent and antisocial ways, in fact i can imagine circumstances where i'd like to see it happen more often, but with all due respect to passionately held views and people's right to express them in whatever language they deem appropriate, i just have to say WILL YOU PLEASE STOP USING THAT FUCKING IDIOTIC WORD YOU MINDLESS SLOGAN SPOUTING CLICHE PARROTING CRETINS!!!!!

Thank you.

I don't know, I find the Howard Government to be quite unaustralian these days.

But, seriously, don't read this:

Dear Mr Kent, thanks for having the guts to stand up and speak for myself and other fair-go loving, true blue Australians and our never hit a guy in the back, step outside and go one on one like a man way of life, which is struggling to survive the flood of violent, criminal grubs that is swamping us. By the way, here's a nice, big Aussie cup of GET FUCKED, CUNT.

(Well, you did warn me.)

I particularly like:

"Each man will be given the chance to defend himself against his charges whereas, under the Taliban, for example, the system that championed their extremists views, legal requirements such as due process and a right to be considered innocent until proven guilty were a dream, a fantasy.

We don't do it that way."

Well, we will soon enough. Thanks to Howard.

agreed.Scariest thing was when howard was called 'unastralian' and he said GET THIS! "i think the term 'unaustralian' is bandied about too much these days by people who want to further their cause.."
ARE MY EARS MALFUNCTIONING????
Considering he did more than anyone to foster its usage...How much more of a janus face can this guy be?

I think he's just seeing how stupid people are and how much bullshit they'll swallow. That's probably why he's always got that pleasantly surprised expression.

Every day in my research on the late-Victorian British Empire I find parallels with present day Australia under Howard (from the treatment of the poor and unemployed involving concepts of mutual obligation to the idea that one's home country is the bastion of all that is morally right in comparison with other races). The thought that Australians hold the right to all that is good and true and that which is evil is "un-Australian" is not just arrogant but painfully ignorant.

Anyone catch Morgan Spurlock's show last night where a Christian from Virginia (I think) was forced to live as Muslim for 30 days? It should be compulsory viewing for everyone who uses the phrase "un-Australian."

It's no coincidence that I started designing a t-shirt a couple of days ago...black with white letters stenciled on the front:
un-Australian
Cos that's what I am, according to John Howard (and even someone who had a go at me on my own LJ during the week but was too gutless to identify themself).
I'm so fucking sick of this.
Yes, I'll wear it in public and if anyone's dumb enough to talk at me about their political views I'll give them a mouthful.
It's well past time to poke a stick in and stir the shit.
Got the t-shirts, ink, rollers, practiced making a stencil on Tuesday as a proof-of-concept.
Prototype happens this weekend.

If there's no photos up in my LJ by Monday, don't email me or try to make contact because you'll get arrested as a terrorist, too. ;)

Complaining about the use of the term un-Australian is un-Australian.
Prepare to report to Baxter Detention Centre for re-education.
