Still about 150 posts behind, but i'll catch up eventually.  Weekend update thingy first before i forget.

Was tempted by the bands at Cabaret Nocturne, but knew on recent form that i wasn't going to make it out the door on a Friday night.  Work is the curse of the drinking man indeed!  Ironically, i did perk up a bit after 11ish, but it was a bit late by then.  Ah well, i'll make it along sooner or later (maybe if it's still going by the time i ever get some holidays).

Saturday's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a bit quieter than usual, numbers wise, but not uncomfortably so.  In fact, it was just quiet enough and just busy enough to give a cosy take on that loft-party feel.

There was a bit of drama early on when the poxy dj desk finally gave up the ghost on one cd player, leaving us listening to compilations while [livejournal.com profile] merry_thoughts raced home to get his own deck (as the rest of us took turns standing there poking the play button just to check that [livejournal.com profile] psychotopia  wasn't making it up, and someone ran downstairs to get Anthony to come poke the play button a bit more).  On the upside i got a reminder of how many good songs are on the old Gothic Rock compilation, which i haven't listened to, apart from the odd song or three, in ages.  The change over was remarkably quick (these professional djs and their professionalism, i don't know) and things were back on track.  Go Team Dave!

I had planned to make a point of saying hello to people i'd seen around a lot but never actually spoken to, but as usual was too easily distracted (ooh, shiny thing with alcoholic liquid inside!).  I think i did have quite a bit to drink, but didn't feel particularly drunk (though i do recall feebly heckling weasles_of_fire for deserting us for the Billy Joel floor).  Had a few interesting chats, including with Renee Sometimes (whose current lj name she told me about four times and i still can't remember) who i'd initially mistaken for devil_girly, on various scenereal topics which prompted some interesting thoughts most of which i've now forgotten.

'Twas another fun night as usual, all the music was good and i got moderately sweaty on the stagger-floor, though i'm still left with the lingering and disturbing question of just when and why Joy Division became music for dirty dancing.

My own set went okay, and i was anticipating a decent level of getting-away-with-it-ness until a lurking Midnight Configuration cd in a Christian Death case sent things a bit pear shaped (i do rather like the song, but it was just wrong wrong wrong at the time).  But shit happens.  Playing another of Jay's blind requests kept things interesting and went down okay, as did the other song i mistakenly played from his cd.  Didn't play any of what i'd actually planned, but that's okay as it means i've got next time's set more or less worked out already.

So here's what i did end up with:

Laibach - Gebert Einer Nation
The Living End - Tainted Love
Zombie Ghost Train - Girl U Want
The Cure - The Upstairs Room
Midnight Configuration - Force (shit how'd that get in there mix)
Christian Death - Electra Descending (request/artist)
Killing Joke - Love Like Blood
That Petrol Emotion - Keen
The Ramones - Pet Sematary
The Three Johns - A.W.O.L. (request)
The Sisters of Mercy - Temple of Love '92 (request)
Sex Gang Children - Immigrant (request/artist)
Einsturzende Neubauten - Haus der Luge (request)
Star Industry - Nineties (request)

And now back to catching up.

Welcome to old age!
Midnight? What's that?

At least when I avoided going out I could still stay up late.
*sigh*

I'm sure there's a law somewhere about how many people will have to try it to see for themselves when you say something's broken. :)

Ah, i thought there was an echo in there somewhere, but then thought it could have been a silver (i see the name silver_echo around a bit, whoever that is). Hi.

Ay ay ay. It wasn't the Billy Joel that compelled me - it was the Irene Cara strange and unsettling desire to air-guitar in time to Boston's 'More Than a Feeling'. They don't like that upstairs.

Simulated dancefloor fellatio to Joy Division seemed to be the go upstairs. I'm not sure how many flavours of wrong that is.

See, I was foolish and morbidly compelled enough to be upstairs for that er scintillating peccadillo. That was... really upsetting. See, when I make inane puns about Ian Curtis being "well-hung", I never have any interest in it being taken literally on a choreographic level. Eww.
