Date: 2005-08-07 11:58 pm (UTC)I was hobbling about with a walking stick the first KKBB night, having done a mischief to my leg. I was actually supposed to be on crutches, but a cane was much morer dignified. It can be a dandy fashion accessory, given the right look to go with it. :)

Date: 2005-08-08 12:11 am (UTC)I went back last night and deleted most of that entry, only leaving
" want to come out....I'll know at least one person at Monster Mash"
and somehow you've got the original full entry. I had got annoyed at myself for mentioning limitations/DD (dreaded disease)
I have a 'grandmother' type wooden cane, hook head.
I *want* an aluminium folding cane - the paisley one looked nice. Just need the $$. (from America)
Don't think getting the typical 'Gothic' cane that is sold as accessory is a good idea - sold for fashion, not weight bearing! I used the cane I inherited from my Grandmother at a Goth picnic last year - lovely dark brown stained bamboo, large blue and white marble on the head. Probably 100 years old, and I cracked it at the top and down one side. Fixed now, but I won't be using it again!
Back on DD, was looking up stuff on my friend Dianne's disease for the first time ever when I receieved this post, having just seen a LJ mention of it by someone else, (I get a lot of DD support group stuff in my LJ) plus answering a mail from her.
Always refused to look it up, coz I reckoned it would just upset me, given she's terminal.
But the article I just read gives the medial age as 48!!!!!!!
I thought I only had her for another 3 years or so!!!!!!!!! (She's early 30s).
Of course, there may be additional complications - I had the impresssion from her family that there was very little time but I'm going to ask Dianne directly, for my own peace of mind. Having had it for life, she will be at peace with her expected span
(she's a very spiritual person).
That's my good news for the morning - a weight off my heart :-)
That's pretty major, isn't it!!! I'm going to write another mail to her now.
Damn - one day I'm going to have frivolous, fluffy stuff to talk about.
have a good day

Date: 2005-08-08 12:14 am (UTC)my thing is that it's going to look weird, walking in with an obviously medical cane, then dumping it to hit the dance floor.
Oh well, who cares!
(~need~ that paisley one! Then nobody will know what it's for! They can think I'm a fashion pretentious so and so)
LOL. Backwards and forwards!

Date: 2005-08-08 05:54 am (UTC)I had a nice brown wooden one from an op-shop, with a ~ shape carved handle/support. Did the job but didn't look too bad.
And on the other hand, fuck'em.

Date: 2005-08-08 10:50 pm (UTC)Like I have ever cared, and could care even less now I'm a member of homo horizontalus, not homo sapiens (we do things differently!)
It's about whether *I* can survive the night/walking around the without a cane, given it hardly fits into my image of myself at a club. Club-Megan isn't dragging around a wooden thing. First time out without it since I started using it, if I don't take it. (I don't use it in the house)
I read about your ankle further back in your LJ (useful). Poor Puppy! All ok now, I hope.
