"Charities were also hit, as many donors refused to give money to the Salvation Army's annual Red Shield appeal unless guarantees could be given that it would not be be spent in Indonesia.  Some people even contacted major charities -- including World Vision and the Red Cross -- demanding that the money they donated to Indonesian tsunami victims be returned."

God i hate Australians sometimes.

Whilst I agree she is probably not guilty, and won't be going to Bali any time soon..I have to agree..what the fuck? why make poor people suffer more?

Of course, Tsunami victims in Aceh are to blame for judges halfway across Indonesia handing down a guilty verdict in a drugs case. And never mind how the Indonesian government treats its own people (particularly in Aceh) or how many other defendants have copped far worse sentences - send one cute Aussie chick to prison and that's it. Fuck 'em all.

(I realise i'm doing the same with my "i hate Australians" bit, but there's only so much i can take of the ignorant cretins who always seem to be the ones to speak for us).

A Salvation Army person came to my door on Sunday, explaining that she didn't know where the money was going, and so couldn't gaurantee that it wasn't going to Indonesia - I replied that I had no problem with money going to Indonesia and gave her a donation.

I'm horrified by this stupid reaction from the Australian public. She could quite well be guilty. It's such a shitty, almost bratty, irrational reaction.

I don't like Aussies too much at the moment either....

I wonder how many of them are of the "all junkies should be shot" brigade.

I heard that on the radio this morning.

My jaw dropped.

Sometime over the weekend i saw Salvo street collectors being interviewed on tv news about whether any of the money would go to Indonesia. I wouldn't be surprised if the news media raised the idea in the first place to generate more controversy.

My brother told me about it on the phone earlier today and I was disgusted. While I realise it's just the lowest common denominator that thinks this way, I will remind myself of this whenever I get homesick - Australia under Howard is not the tolerant nation I grew up in anymore.

I won't give money to the Salvation Army, but it has nothing to do with Indonesia.
That shit is whack :/

I don't really give a damn if Ms Corby goes to jail. I can't comment on if she's guilty or not, but honestly... If we're going to boycott charities for helping the poor, I'd like to boycott centrelink. (Not because I have something against centrelink per se... rather, I'm against the current government and their actions regarding some Australian citizens)

Ahh, the general AU public and amazingly hypocritical moral high horses. Welcome back to 1955, folks.
