bands thing

Had a think about the Bands Wot I've Seen Over The Years thing (as inspired by Barbarella and Siobhan), and this is what i've came up with so far (with a few peeks at Barbarella's list to help jog my memory).  I wasn't surprised at the number of local acts (even without including random support acts i had no interest in) but i was a little suprised there weren't more overseas ones.  No doubt there's several i've forgotten, but this is a pretty good wrap-up for one day's brain-picking. (Edit - and several months' worth of "oh, yeah, that band" additions.

You know, the good thing about doing a list like this is that i can remember something about each band, be it what they sounded like, where i was, what was happening at that period of time. Just by reading the name, i can call up memories i'd all but forgotten. I was going to go through at a later stage and add in a comment to each name, but it may not even be necessary.

And, y'know, through one misadventure and other, I've still never seen the frikken Cosmics. :) Baffling, really...

Day two and i'm still thinking of random names, via all sorts of thought processes (eg, just pulled out the We Are The Devil Dolls cd, which reminded me of the Wet Ones, which i hadn't seen but which reminded me of Girl Monstar, who i had).

This is actually a really good exercise, as just the names call up some bit of memory or detail i might have forgotten, and i can get a snapshot of the time and place just from that. Wonderful idea.

Nursery Crimes! Yes, i did see them. And there was another band, may have had the same singer, had a song called I Don't Like Anybody (i still often think of the line "'cause when i'm drunk everything is magic, but when i'm sober i'm not sure at all"). Who the fuck was that?

I was listening to it again this morning after I typed this. I just can't listen to their version of Elenor Rigby without jumping around A LOT!

Which didn't look nearly as cool in my dressing gown as I'm sure it did in 1992.

(Thinks..) Hellmen..? Have i seen the Hellmen? I have a vague suspicion i may have, around the time i saw the Celibate Rifles and New Race.. but i'm not sure. Maybe i should leave them out if i can't remember. T'others, no.

Haha. I remember Primary. I don't remember if I ever saw the band but I do remember waking up in a loungeroom with a bunch of them. (Not nearly as sordid as it sounds).
