There was an article in the paper about this the other day. IIRC, there are three women up for stoning right now for "crimes against chastity".

God, i thought they had a moratorium on that. Cultural sensitivity be damned, that's fucking barbaric.

Wow. It doesn't mention stoning in the AI thing.
Yeah, apparently they're going to be buried up to their breasts and all, using stones "not too big, not to small but just right".

They've pre-punished her (or another girl) with flogging, and they'll be stoned as they decided hanging wasn't right.

I 'love' the bit in Iranian law that says the stones used mustn't be so big as to kill by being hit by one or two of them. Possibly the only death sentence i know of still specified by law to have to be slow and painful.

I hate the world sometimes.

The group says there were documented cases of 108 people being executed in Iran last year - making Iran second only to China in the rate of executions.

The US killed 59 in the last year.

But the Beeb may be out.
China's history on killings (according to Amnesty
http://www.amnestyusa.org/abolish/world/china/fact_sheet.html) is was around 1000 per annum in the 1990s. I can't imagine it's been curtailed to 10% because of the Olympics.

Well, i've sent my letters off to the Ayatollahs in question, so now i'm going to tune all of that stuff out and not think of depressing things for the rest of the year.
