I'm trying to move away from posting always about what's wrong in this world, to maybe focus a little more on what could be right with it. I'm not sure which category this quote falls into, probably more the former, but it strikes a chord with me either way (via Patchworkkid):

"And I feel a sense of the collective soul too, connected to the whole of life, but all this seems to be denied by the achievements of our time. The success of our political and corporate life has been at the expense and neglect of the soul. As a result, very sick souls are making important decisions. That is why I decided that finding and nurturing one's soul is a social and political act as well as a personal one." - Michael Leunig, The Good Weekend, June 13, 1998

This one is also probably more the former but, aside from summing up a lot of how i feel too, it's touching just for the sheer poetry of it (via Horngirl):

Oh, I'm glad you saw that. No-one else mentioned anything about it, and I thought it was a shame.

Sometimes it's the hardest thing to decide just what to do as a "responsible" person in this world. I have a lot of trouble at times just surviving let alone thriving. And it's only when one has something to look forward to, or at least some sense of optimism, that one can even think about changing the world.

In the end, I subscribe to the dictum that "Success is the best Revenge". If I can make a success of my life - in that I can achieve my own goals and objectives, and on my own terms - and then show this to others, then I am making a difference in the world (I hope).
