Christmas with the in-laws was different this year. After all the drama and disasters of the last few months, even the Christmas tree and decorations hadn't been brought down from storage, so we brought over our own little potted tree for the day. Standing there, decorating that straggly little tree with whatever ribbons and odds'n'sods we could find or improvise, trying to make Christmas nice for everybody after a really shitful year, i found myself thinking: "you know, i don't hate this". It was actually quite nice, perhaps just a little taste of what people see in the occasion. Of course, i still hated the inevitable present grab, as i do every year, but perhaps if i can remember to separate the things that i hate about Christmas from the things that are 'quite nice', it guess it could be, well, quite nice.

The 'passion' question is a good one, yes. It's the sort of question that might just end up changing someone's life one day. I like the idea of reminding people about the things they're *really* dedicated to.
