Lot's wife
May. 17th, 2004 01:25 pmi told myself i didn't want to see it, that i wouldn't seek it out or download it, even if the link was there in front of me.
Then the talk started about it being a fake, and i got curious.
And there was the link.
i watched it.
i wish i hadn't.
But i still haven't managed to make myself delete it.

Curiosity killed the cat
Date: 2004-05-17 03:54 am (UTC)Why would they bother with a fake?
It's easy to pic an American up and slit his/her throat in Iraq or Saudi Arabia.
Easier than to edit a beheading.

Date: 2004-05-17 11:38 pm (UTC)For all the conspiracy theories flying about, the simplest explanation is probably that it's for real. And if by some chance it wasn't, that still wouldn't change anything about what we know people are capable of.
Which brings me back to i wish i'd never seen it.

Date: 2004-05-17 04:55 am (UTC)I think deleting it might make you feel better. I don't mean in a 'head in the sand' way, more 'less complicit'.

Date: 2004-05-17 06:18 am (UTC)Had to delete it. Couldn't stop looking at it otherwise (took me three tries while i was writing this to finally make myself get rid it).
Thing is, it was only an excerpt, so i still don't know whether the edits in it exist in the original, to answer the question that made me look at it in the first place (like i would be able to tell anyway).
Now i have to remind myself that i don't *need* to see the rest of it, that i wouldn't be able to tell the difference if i did, so i don't go looking for other versions. i've seen enough to know if i did go looking, it'd be for snuff, not the truth.

stranger ++ ungood thinkcrime
Date: 2004-05-17 08:41 am (UTC)Call me paranoid but I reckon watching that vid puts a nice red flag against your name on a computer hosted at the golf ball shaped installation in the centre of Australia.

Date: 2004-05-17 11:42 pm (UTC)No, more likely i'll find myself getting spammed by every sick puppy check-out-the-kewl-snuff-pix site.
The 52 bits of spyware i had to delete off my computer last night say so too.

Date: 2004-05-18 04:35 am (UTC)The one i saw was just the execution (if i had to see him talk about his family it would have been so much worse). The edits near the end look like they're just to shorten how long it took (and if there's more of that i don't want to see it either).
It was upsetting to watch, but i more feel bad for being a gawking spectator watching somebody suffer like that.

Date: 2004-05-17 11:12 pm (UTC)Well, yes.
Just as the torture of prisoners does.
What's wrong is wrong, no matter who does it, and it doesn't become less wrong just because somebody else is doing something worse.

Date: 2004-05-18 11:26 am (UTC)Have you seen this, by the way:

As I've no intention of hunting out the video I'm not going to vouch for the accuracy of the claims therein, but there would appear to be something mightily odd about the whole thing...
