Pants on Fire
Aug. 17th, 2004 01:09 pmYes, i know i'm preaching to the converted here, but it has to be said:
So, Howard's been caught out in yet another lie, though he's still denying it and saying he was just going on the advice given. Again.

There's no two ways to put this - it's no longer a question of whether people believe Honest John has lied, but whether they care. This next election will tell us whether the Australian people can claim to have acted in good faith on the advice given or whether, like Howard, we just don't care as long as the lies support what we want to believe.
No benefit of the doubt this time - the Emperor has no clothes and we all know it. This one's about values and integrity and what the 'Australian character' really stands for.
If Australia decides that what it stands for is cynicism, self-interest and "screw you mate, i'm all right", then i'm not sure i'll want to consider myself an Australian any more.
Message ends.

Maybe the kids thrown overboard were gripped with Olympic fever?

Date: 2004-08-17 03:39 am (UTC)I dont want to be called an Aussie if HE is our leader. He represents not one thing I believe in nor am proud of. I would rather put his neck on a pole at the front of Parliament house & piss on it - as a sign of my respect.
If he gets back in I am personally beating up ANYONE that voted for him.
He is ruining our country - let alone what others think of us.

Date: 2004-08-17 04:07 am (UTC)Would it be too subtle to stand outside polling booths with a megaphone shouting: "DON'T VOTE FOR HOWARD OR I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!"?
Might as well - everything else is a fuckin joke

Date: 2004-08-18 05:58 am (UTC)Someone, in another article somewhere, expressed exactly what i fear is true, that many people don't care whether the Children Overboard was a lie, whether the people in detention centres are legitimate refugees or whether our policies violate interntional law because, at the end of the day, they simply don't want these towel-headed nig-nogs moving in next door (not in those words, but with that general gist).
There's a reason why the asylum seeker issue is such a touchy one for me, which i think i'm going to have to put in words and get it off my chest, so maybe i can get to sleep at night instead of stewing on it.
