Kiss Kiss goes out with a bang
Nov. 19th, 2006 03:15 amJust as i'd decided i was well and truly over deejaying and over clubs in general, last night's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 'grand finale' was a blast.
I wasn't sure how taking over the main floor of Deviate would work, and the early part of the night was a bit of the expected Night of the Disgruntled Metalhead, but after the upper floors opened and more of the gothy crowd filtered in, the vibe was really good. By the time Hayley played her set of hardcore deathrock around 2 o'clock, people were kicking up their heels to just about every obscure-as-fuck track she could throw at them (including a couple of folks who'd been saying earlier that they'd never heard any of this kind of music before). I even had to slip off my It's Not All About The Dance Floor hat and recall how great it is to have sweat dripping and legs aching from too much dancing and still feel the need to jump up again to make a spectacle of myself to some great song i'd never heard before.
I even remembered how deejaying can be fun too, especially those (too rare) moments when everything gels and it feels 'just right'.
My sets went like this:
(11.30-12)
The Sisters of Mercy - Alice
Killing Miranda - Touched by Jesus
The Damned - Smash It Up
The Deep Eynde - Suicide Drive
Killing Joke - Eighties
The Misfits - We Are 138
Specimen - Stand Up Stand Out
Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism
London After Midnight - Revenge (request)
(1.30-2ish)
The Cure - The Hanging Garden
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Candyman
Christian Death - Romeo's Distress
Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
The Cramps - Creature from the Black Leather Lagoon
Nightmare in Wax - Black Leather
Sheep on Drugs - Motorbike
Elton Motello - Jet Boy Jet Girl
Kudos to Lyle and Rachael for making this all happen. Nice work guys.
