Elaine: "No, poverty is having to choose between food and alcohol."
Me: "Actually, i think that's called 'alcoholism'."

The rent was paid yesterday, so i checked my account this morning and found an unexpected $60 left in there (woohoo!).  Just as i was taking it out of the machine, i realised it's probably the money to cover a cheque i wrote a week ago (d'oh!).  So now the bank will probably slug me another $30 for being overdrawn when it gets presented (bastids!).

On the upside, even though we still won't be going out this weekend, at least we and the cats get to eat next week, and we can have a bottle of cider or three (they're cheaper by the three, so it's more economically sound that way, okay?).

I'm not sure what's more worrying though, the realisation that we'd be utterly crap if we ever have to deal with *real* poverty, or how depressing i found the prospect of not being able to have a drink to mark the end of the week.  It's only alcoholism if you want it every day, right?  Right?

Just came back from checking out this exhibition, on Damien's recommendation.  Must second the plug, it's quite an eye feast (for my tastes anyway).  Pan's eyes had me transfixed in particular, while a painting of two satyrs picking flowers i found rather disturbing (i'm sure it reminds me of something that freaked me out as a child in some picture book or other).

But yeah, do check it out.
