Poster: "Poverty is having to choose between food and shelter."
Elaine: "No, poverty is having to choose between food and alcohol."
Me: "Actually, i think that's called 'alcoholism'."
The rent was paid yesterday, so i checked my account this morning and found an unexpected $60 left in there (woohoo!). Just as i was taking it out of the machine, i realised it's probably the money to cover a cheque i wrote a week ago (d'oh!). So now the bank will probably slug me another $30 for being overdrawn when it gets presented (bastids!).
On the upside, even though we still won't be going out this weekend, at least we and the cats get to eat next week, and we can have a bottle of cider or three (they're cheaper by the three, so it's more economically sound that way, okay?).
I'm not sure what's more worrying though, the realisation that we'd be utterly crap if we ever have to deal with *real* poverty, or how depressing i found the prospect of not being able to have a drink to mark the end of the week. It's only alcoholism if you want it every day, right? Right?
